UNIT 1: METHODS OF TRANSLATING

OVERVIEW
ORANGE, BLUE and BROWN, all know each other from school, which was 6 years ago. They never hangout when they were in school, but this year BLUE’S SISTER moved to LONDON, so they all decided to meet. BLUE is 24 years old, same as ORANGE, while BROWN is 23 years old and BLUE’S SISTER is 22 years old. ORANGE and BROWN recently started working a 9-5 job.
GREEN and PINK are meeting for the first time. PINK is BLUE’S SISTER’S roommate, they had met each other during their Undergraduate Degree in Singapore, during the year 2019. GREEN also knows BLUE, ORANGE, BROWN and BLUE’S SISTER since she also went to the same school as them 6 years ago in BAHRAIN. But one of them were friends, they only knew of each other. PINK is also 22 years old while GREEN is 23. GREEN works a 9-5 job and PINK is pursuing her masters degree just like BLUE’S SISTER.
ORANGE and BLUE were in the same class during the time they were in school but were never friends. BLUE’S SISTER’S basketball team was rivals with ORANGE’S team. However, in the recent years, during COVID, BLUE, ORANGE and BROWN started hanging out at similarly met GREEN as well since there were very few people to meet during COVID in BAHRAIN. Eventually they old become a good group of friends and realized they’re all going to end up in LONDON so decided to meet once everyone was settled in LONDON.
Response:
- The chosen Form which is 3D clay modelling is interesting and works well as a translation of the photograph (source) as it acts as an archive of that night (the photograph)
-The angle of focusing on the props (in this case, the people) rather than the architectural model of the space itself, works well. - The way of modeling which is textourous, rough and fully hand made, works well
- The method of writing which is notation, also works well with the project
- Maybe writing could be done in a more personal way
- Would be useful to make the purpose clear, like for eg. the purpose is to create a 3D archive of the photograph and focusing on the story of the people in it
- Needs more detail about the people since that is the focus
- Can create more such 3D clay models in order to create a museum
- Can create personal character profile details of each person on the models, can also create a human key
- Through the models and writing, can show how housing crisis, educational factors, geographical factors, social behaviors etc effect one another
- Can place the models on a map of London to give better context, or on a timeline of how they people met and create more models from past timelines
- Could create a character web of how each person relates to the other
- Highlight the angle of focusing on the objects/props (people) of the architectural model rather than the model itself
